Sadly we were unable to hold the annual Remembrance Service this year but in anticipation of people still wanting to attend individually at the Memorial Garden to remember loved ones lost and pay respects to the fallen who gave their lives for our freedom our volunteers were out in force to assist Bob Stocks in giving the Memorial Garden a spruce up on the Monday, which was appreciated by those who called at the Memorial Garden on the 11th. Bob and Dave Wylde maintain the garden all year round and do a wonderful job.

Other members of our group have also been busy;

Debby Stratton, hand knitted 100 poppies for the poppy appeal.

Ken Nuttall repaired the Well at the entrance to the Memorial Garden.

And congratulations to Jack Bonner who won the “Who Cares Campaign” Neighbour of the Week run by Costa Calida Radio. Jack was nominated by his neighbours in recognition of all his hard work in sweeping the roads and keeping his area tidy.

Luckily for us we were able to hold a Fundraiser before the bars closed. This was held at The Diner and we would like to say a very big thank you to Sue Pipe for organising this and to her staff for looking after us. It was a very enjoyable evening and raised a total of 406.20 euros.

As our name says we are a Community Group, and, as well as maintaining the parks and garden areas, our volunteers are also involved in other things which contribute to the safety and wellbeing of our community. At least 10 of our members also belong to the Security Group. This group is made up of volunteers both men and women who live on Sector A. They give up their evenings to patrol the streets every night to keep a lookout and keep an eye on empty properties. It enables anyone to contact a member if they see anything suspicious or, especially for those living alone, a means of obtaining help if needed. There have been many occasions when concerns have been reported and the “group chat” phone network has spread the word and the response has been immediate.

We have now suspended our bucket collections while the bars are closed but our library is still open every Friday between 10 am to 12.30.
