At the time of writing half of 2021 has already gone although where is unclear! Each Summer, our work party volunteers take a well-deserved break to keep them safe and allow them time to enjoy the sunshine so, with the temperature already drifting over 30 degrees, shutdown won't be far away and will be the case in July.
So far, this year hasn't been a great year as the volunteers have been hampered by the long running restrictions arising from covid and the lack of support from residents as regards assistance with the group's efforts both physically and financially. B Clean and the small group of members who undertake the physical work required, have had all sorts of problems to face. We got through the lockdown and the uncertainty of how the situation was going to be dealt with and the various restrictions on day to day life. We moved into 2021 and things started improving. We were able to get some basic but necessary maintenance work done although, once again, the group's finances suffered a major blow when we had to use a large part of the funds to pay for trimming the palms on the public roads . As the local council has met its responsibilities in this connection elsewhere on the urbanisation, we can only hope that the group will not have to pay out again next time. If not, we will doubtless be told the reason...
B Clean volunteers have been able to undertake the oleander trimming and weed spraying throughout the main thoroughfares of the sector which is quite remarkable as there tends to be just four people. Frustratingly, our repeated requests for help from residents seem to have fallen on deaf ears once again. There is only so much a handful of volunteers can do. We were concerned that the oleander bushes, which were forming their flower buds when the delayed trimming was underway, were going to lose many of the blooms. We have been very lucky that, with skill and an awful lot of hard work, the roadside blooms have produced a wonderful display.
As things improve and restrictions ease, we can only hope that more residents will give some serious thought to helping out with the maintenance of B sector. If you aren't available to help the work party on a Tuesday morning, financial assistance is always welcomed by making certain that some money goes into the bucket collections. Other donations are always welcome of course.. Joining the group and ensuring that your 5 euro monthly subscription fee is paid is also a great help. Our current situation is a difficult one and we really do need your help so please contact B Clean on "bcleangardening@gmail.com" or our Facebook page "B Clean Community Gardening.
